A youtube video which explains a bit about the history of the meme starts with two privileged youth relaxing on leather sofas: “I like your home theater.” “Yeah, but there are only 12 seats, and they’re not real leather.”
But I figure we should devote at least some time to talking about some #realfirstworldproblems – not just the ones that everyone faces no matter what “world” they live in (like pride, jealousy, anger, violence) – let’s expose some of the subtle ways that living in the first world is dangerous to our souls and communities. It’s one thing to point out that we should stop complaining from our position of privilege (I complained when I had no shoes till I met the man who had no feet)- but it’s a bit trickier to really see how living in luxury comes with hidden costs.
Here are some #realfirstworldproblems that come to mind (but I’d like to hear from you what you’d add to the list:
